NGC 1333 (VdB 17) - VdB 12 - VdB 13 Cepheus

North is to the left     1600x1098

Objects:             Three Van den Bergh objects embedded in a complex dust field. NGC 1333 is the brightes nebula. Vdb 12 is the yellow nebula to the north of the bluish VdB 13.

Constellation:     Perseus

Coordinates of field center: 3h 28m +31° 11'

Notes: This is a fantastic field at the center of a complex grouping of obscure nebulae already catalogued by Barnard. Amazingly there is plenty of light here to be seen. Notice the large number of tiny reflection nebulae dispersed in the field and the Herbig Haro objects in proximity of NGC 1333.

Telescope and camera: ASA 10', f 3.6; SBIG STL 11000.

Exposure: Luminance 57x8'; R, B 19x10'; G 19x8'. About 17 hrs in total.

Date: 4 nights on 19-10-09, 24, 25, 26-10-09.

Software used: acquisition, CCDsoft. Calibration; registration and stacking: CCDstack, Registar; processing: PixInsight, Photoshop CS.

Processing notes: color balancing was very tricky. It appears that the dark knots in the yellow dust lanes are far more yellowish than the dark patch of background sky. In order to maintain a pleasant overall chromatic equilibrium I decided to let the background to be a little more bluish than usual. Unusual maybe, but the chromatic contrast to me is rich and pleasant, and respects the extraordinaire complexity of the region.
