Scorpio's head.
Objects: The complex set of reflection and dark clouds surrounding Antares. See the overlay for the object naming.
Constellation: Scorpio
Coordinates of field center: 16h 15m -24° 48'
Notes:
Antares was past the meridian when I started this shot so the total integration
is much less than what I was hoping. Due to varying atmospheric refraction it
was impossible to register the single frames with a simple affine transformation
(translation, rotation and scale). The evergreen Registar came to rescue.
Telescope and camera: Canon 135 mm f2.0 closed to f2.8; SBIG STL 11000.
Exposure: R 8x8''G 5x8''; B 7x8''. There is no luminance data since the RGB focal plane are not close enough to allow wideband imaging: each filter requires separate focusing and registration.
Date: 2 nights on 13 and 17-07-09 from the dark sky of Corsica.
Software used: acquisition, CCDsoft. Calibration, registration and stacking: CCDstack, Registar. Processing: PixInsight, Photoshop CS.
