North of the M8 - M20 region, there is a dense cloud of stars easily visible with the naked eye. This cloud has been catalogued as M24 but it does not represent an actual physical association. The area Is rich in very hot and massive O star, which can be seen as the brightest stars down below. The shape of the cloud is due to several surrounding dark nebulae: two of them are extremely opaque and have been catalogued as B92 and 93 by Barnard.
