NGC 4725 Coma Berenices

Full resolution 1752x1312

Objects:             More disturbed geometries between galaxies. From the left: NGC 4747, NGC 4725, NGC  4712

Constellation:     Coma Berenices

Coordinates of field center: 12h 51m +35° 34'

Notes: NGC 4725 is also known as the one armed galaxy because of the curious morphology of its outer arm. The distorted geometry likely arises by its interaction with the smaller side-on spiral NGC 4747 which show a large bipolar tidal arm. This couple has a wealth of interesting details that would deserve at least doubling the integration time and a larger telescope!

Telescope and camera: ASA 10', f 3.6; SBIG STL 11000.

Exposure: Luminance 37x8'; R, B 12x10''; G 12x8". About 10.5 hrs total.

Date: 3 nights 8, 9, 10 April 2010.

Software used: acquisition, CCDsoft, CCDcommander. Calibration, registration and stacking: CCDstack, Iris; processing: PixInsight, Photoshop CS.

I used multiple instances of multiscale filtering to enhance the tremendous amount of details present in the spiral arms.
